Your Right to Delete Your Data

Chabo is committed to respecting your privacy and your right to control your personal information. If you would like your data deleted from our systems, this page explains what that means, how to request it, and what to expect.

Who Can Request Data Deletion?

You can request deletion of your data if you are:

  • A business client — a company or individual with a Chabo subscription account.
  • An end user — a customer who has interacted with a business through a Chabo-powered WhatsApp experience.
  • A website visitor — someone who has visited chabo.ai and whose data we may have collected via cookies or contact forms.

What Data We Can Delete

Upon a valid deletion request, we will erase or permanently anonymise the following:

  • Your account information: name, email address, phone number, and business details.
  • Your platform content: message templates, configurations, and business settings.
  • Conversation and interaction data associated with your account.
  • Contact form submissions and support correspondence.
  • Cookie and analytics data linked to your identity (where technically possible).

What We May Need to Retain

Certain data may need to be retained even after a deletion request, where we are legally required or permitted to do so under POPIA or other applicable law:

  • Financial records — invoices, payment history, and transaction data must be kept for a minimum of 5 years under South African tax law.
  • Legal compliance records — data required to comply with a court order, regulatory obligation, or ongoing legal proceeding.
  • Fraud and security logs — records necessary to prevent fraud or investigate a security incident.
  • Aggregated or anonymised data — data that has been fully anonymised and can no longer be linked to you is not considered personal information and may be retained.

Where we retain data on one of these grounds, we will inform you of the reason and the expected retention period.

How to Request Deletion

Option 1 — Email us directly

Send a deletion request to privacy@chabo.ai with the subject line “Data Deletion Request”. Please include:

  • Your full name.
  • The email address associated with your account (if applicable).
  • Your WhatsApp number (if you are an end user).
  • A brief description of what data you would like deleted.

Option 2 — Via your account dashboard

Business clients can initiate a data deletion request directly from within their Chabo account settings under Privacy & Data.

Option 3 — Via Facebook / Meta

If you interacted with a Chabo-powered WhatsApp experience and would like to request deletion through Meta, you can do so via Facebook’s data deletion request flow at facebook.com/privacy/consent/gdp.

What Happens Next

  1. We verify your identity — to protect against unauthorised requests, we may ask you to confirm your identity before processing your request.
  2. We review the request — we assess what data we hold, what can be deleted, and what must be retained for legal reasons.
  3. We action the deletion — data that can be deleted will be permanently erased or anonymised within 30 days of your verified request.
  4. We confirm completion — we will send you a confirmation email once the deletion has been carried out, along with details of any data we were required to retain.

Data Held by Third Parties

Chabo works with third-party service providers who may hold copies of your data on our behalf. Where we delete your data, we will instruct our relevant service providers to do the same, subject to their own legal retention obligations.

Please note that data held directly by Meta / WhatsApp is subject to Meta’s own deletion processes. You can manage that data via WhatsApp’s in-app settings or at whatsapp.com/legal/privacy-policy.
